Below you can find a selection of case studies which take a closer look at the working practices employed by Colorend Ltd from conception to completion. Each project we undertake can vary dramatically and our expertise proves vital at every stage of the project.
Client: Bardsley Construction
Sector: Commercial Projects
Contract Duration: 25 Weeks
This continued a long tradition of Colorend being involved in Bardsley’s many projects which has spanned for over 10 years.
The building consisted of a five storey further education building that was in dire need of improvement and modernisation. Colorend’s “Package” involved the fixing of a Permarock EWI render system, which consisted of 100mm expanded polystyrene sheets which were fixed both mechanically and by using mixed adhesive, the system then received a basecoat layer which featured a layer of fibreglass reinforcement and additional stress patch reinforcement around the windows and other “high stress areas”, the system was then finished with a primer coat and a self-cleaning 1.5mm silicone based high performance render coat. This provided the building with a sharp and modern aesthetic which worked well with the trespa cladding and powder coated aluminium windows.
The project was carried out under challenging circumstances with the college being “live” and filled with students attending classes throughout the day, careful planning and time management was required to ensure that classes were not disrupted by the works. In addition to this the city centre location of the college also posed problems with very little storage space for the trades working on site, therefore Colorend used “just in time” management methods to ensure that the bulky insulation products were delivered to site in manageable quantities and installed in quick time to ensure adequate space was available for safety reasons and for other trades to store their materials.
Cheshire Limes, Northwich, Cheshire
Client: Barratt Homes
Contract Duration: 2 Years
The homes are finished in a Weber scratch finish render which is applied as a render only system onto concrete block, the render is applied either by hand or through one of our Lancy diesel powered render pumps, using the Lancy machines a large 5 bedroom home can be applied in 1 day and scratched to a finish the following day, meaning large homes can be completed in 2 Days.
Over the past decade Colorend has built a strong relationship with Barratt Homes North West office, with the Cheshire Limes site being one of the 30+ sites which Colorend is currently working on. This relationship is due to the commitment that Colorend has to working with its clients and their priorities, we understand the importance of programme and deadlines and we work closely with our clients to help them achieve their objectives. Due to our excellent work ethics we currently have similar working arrangements with other high volume housebuilders which include David Wilson Homes, Bellway Homes and Persimmon homes to name but a few.
The Harbour Mental Health Inpatient Unit
Client: Vinci Construction UK
Sector: Commercial Projects
Contract Duration: 38 Weeks
Colorend became involved in the project some 14 months before the works started on site advising both the main contractor (Vinci Construction UK) and the end user (Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust) on a suitable and cost effective render solution.
This project follows a number of projects that Colorend has carried out for Vinci UK and its Subsidiary company Intergrated Health Projects (IHP). The vast building was finished in a 1.5mm high performance textured render with an anti-graffiti coating with associated lightweight panels above the curtain walling sections .The Permarock system featured mechanically fixed beads and trims to provide extra an extra layer of protection to the render finish, all of the works were carried out on MEWPS and aluminium scaffold towers. The project was handed over to the client on time and subsequently has received significant local press attention. Since this project has been completed Colorend has been awarded both the Recovery Centre project and the Edenfield Unit which are both new mental health facilities located on the Prestwich Hospital site in Manchester.
